Graduate Assistant
Bio
Elise Heffernan is a doctoral candidate in UVA’s Environmental Sciences department. She studies the effects of climate change on northward tree migration into the tundra in Alaska and Canada, but more broadly, she just loves a good forest. Elise teaches ecology labs and is co-coordinator of the Environmental Science department’s Undergraduate Research Mentoring Program. She has been involved with WAC since Summer 2020, when she took the Graduate Instructor Seminar on the Teaching of Writing. Since then, Elise has joined the Seminar as a recurring instructional assistant, and she officially joined the WAC staff in Fall 2023 to develop a parallel Coding Across the Curriculum project.
